About The Authors

Jose Barreiro, born in Cuba, is an American novelist and activist who has written extensively about native communities. Working both at the Smithsonian Institution and Cornell University, he has advocated for indigenous rights, family healing processes, and more for people across the Western Hemisphere for decades.

Tom Cook is chief male sun dancer for the Afraid Of Bear/American Horse Tiospaye, and is the spiritual director of this organization. He also runs the Slim Buttes Agricultural Development Program, along with Milo Yellowhair, which brings fruits and vegetables to people in need on Pine Ridge Reservation.
